====== Virtual Machines ======

By Summer 2018, the SoCS infrastructure will have enough capacity for faculty to request small Linux virtual machines for projects. These servers can be given access to the departmental database server (PostgreSQL and MySQL) and network file storage. 
 
  * 2-4 virtual cpus
  * up to 6GB memory
  * 500 GB network storage
  * 20-40 GB local disk storage (SSD?)

SoCS hosted VM's are appropriate for smaller projects:

* Websites with some dynamic content

For projects with more intensive processing needs, UoGuelph faculty have access to SHARCNET compute systems. These systems are suited to traditional HPC workloads, GPGPU and Visualization. In order to access a SHARCNET system, you must have a Compute Canada Account: https://www.computecanada.ca/research-portal/account-management/apply-for-an-account/ 
For assistance accessing SHARCNET resources, you can contact one of their HPC consultants located on campus, Ed Armstrong (edward@uoguelph.ca) and Fei Mao (fmao01@uoguelph.ca).

For the largest computing projects, Compute Canada has additional clusters. For projects requiring 50 cpu core-hours or less, use their rapid access service:
