This is an old revision of the document!
The TODO list for the curriculum committee
Priorities as of January 22, 2015
- Mobile Major (see in-progress section)
- 1910/2910 semester shuffle and rework. (see in-progress section)
- Co-listing of 4th year and grad classes ((see in-progress section)
Completed
- Greg has contacted the other departments to see if they will agree to CIS*1000 and CIS*1200 being DE only. No concerns. Responses: cis1000-1200de-consultation.pdf
In progress
- Judi is meeting with Patricia T to learn about timelines. If you have other questions for her please add them below.
- external reviewer
- senate
- bugs
- new courses
- course revisions
- library
- general timelines
- colisting courses
- 1500 early
- Mike is looking for other programs in mobile computing
- Everyone is going to review the mobile computing courses and assess the proposal to ensure learning outcomes are addressed sufficiently
- Greg (with consultation from Laura) will create at 2-3 possible schedules for the mobile major (for coop and non-coop)
- Li (and Mike) are looking into which courses can be co-listed as combined graduate/undergrad.
- Judi to take it to communication committee next week.
- Joe is investigating the possibility of changing the math courses so that there is a single first semester math course that is required for all majors and then 3rd year elective courses to cover more advanced topics. This will solve the prerequisite problem for the SoftEng program with 3490
- joe will talk to pascal and Charlie
- Charlie sees no problem shifting 1910 to first semester
- 1910 could be the prerequisite for 3490 but we might need to rework 3490
- security and 3490 does involve calculus…
- would be good to add a linear algebra course- numerical methods
- mobile major needs both math classes
Ready to go to school council
- A proposal to offer CIS*3750 and CIS*3760 twice a year so that all students can take CIS*3750 first is ready to go to the School for a vote.
- 3490 should be added to the Software Engineering program. Joe's 1910/2910 investigation is necessary before this can go to school council.
Unordered list of pending items
- coop schedule-summer academic term
- summer academic term-engineering??
- class sizes and splitting sections
- first semester course for Comp Sci
- upper year electives- 3500??
- courses every year instead of every other year
- play around with schedule
- 2030 refresh
- 1500 split (new course) We are awaiting a response from the SOE curriculum committee to see if they agree with the idea of moving their Mechanical and Water Resource students into this course.
- The committee was not convinced that the change in the order to CIS*2030 and CIS*3120 was necessary. It did support the move to simulation for the lab components of CIS*2030 and suggested that it would be reasonable to give teaching relief to redesign the labs to run on simulators instead of single board computers.
- The calendar description of CIS*2050 is still undecided. The committee came up with a counter proposal but David Chiu who brought the original request for the change was not happy with the committee’s description. His response was the the Director should decide what to do but this doesn’t really address the problem.
