New Servers for VM Infrastructure

Overview

The current SoCS VM infrastructure is currently at capacity - notably system memory. We have approximately 5% available RAM. Due to increased adoption of VSCode as a development platform, the memory usage of each student session has greatly increased from ~50mb per student to over 500mb, and as high as 1gb. The current linux.socs.uoguelph.ca servers which have combined total of 128gb memory struggle to keep up with frequent out of memory errors on the servers.

  • Price our new server infrastructure cost and get approval from CIC, directory and college
  • Physically install servers
  • Install and configure Proxmox
  • Move/Build Linux TS nodes on the new servers
