Moodle Overview

Moodle is a learning management system, offered as an alternative to the campus provided Courselink. To access Moodle, point a web browser to moodle.socs.uoguelph.ca.

Moodle is available to all SoCS instructors on request. If you are an instructor who wants to use Moodle for your course, email help@socs.uoguelph.ca with your request, specifying the course code(s).

Virtual Programming Lab

This plugin allows for editing and interactively running small to medium programming assignments from within Moodle. Any instructor with a Moodle course can add this plugin to their course using the Add an Activity or Resource.

Moodle Groups

Using the class list, an instructor can set up groups for each lab section to allow resources to be limited by group. To set this up, see the below guide.

Other available Plugins

Below is a non-exhaustive list of plugins which are available on the SoCS Moodle server, and can be added by an instructor to their course.

  • Scheduler - Scheduler one-on-one student meetings, record attendance, and grade meeting
  • Wiki - A Wiki

Adding Plugins

We can install any plugins that are compatible with our Moodle Server. To do so, an instructor can send a request to help@socs.uoguelph.ca with the plugin name, and if possible a link to the plugin on the Moodle website.
