SoCS Windows Servers
Connecting from off Campus
If you wish to connect to the SoCS Windows Servers from off campus, you must first set up the UoG VPN. Instructions to do so can be found here.
Connecting to Windows
The SoCS Windows servers are available via Remote Desktop. Microsoft Remote Desktop is installed in the Thronbrough 2420 MacLab. It is installed by default on Windows, and is available through the App Store on OS X.
To Connect:
Open the Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection application Hit Click New to set up a new connection:
You will then be asked to enter your credentials:
- Connection Name: A label for the connection (ie SoCS)
- PC Name: windows.socs.uoguelph.ca
- Username: socs\username, where username is your SocS username
- Password: Enter your SoCS Password
- Resolution: 1024×768
- Uncheck “Start Session in Fullscreen”
After entering the connection information, click the red x at the top left. Your new connection will automatically be saved.
Then, click on the connection, and hit Start.
If you receive a message asking you to verify the certificate, ignore this and choose “continue”.
You should now be connected to the SoCS Windows Servers.
